Kew House

An innovative, experimental build driven by the architect and client’s shared interest in a kit-of-parts approach and the self-build possibilities emerging from digital fabrication.

The distinctive perforated cladding was designed digitally and fully engineered before being manufactured offsite by blokbuild using laser cutting technology and automated material forming techniques.

Transported to site, the off-site manufactured steel shells were then craned into place and welded into a steel portal structure inserted behind the retained nineteenth-century brick stable wall. A system of interconnected, CNC cut plywood ribs form an internal lining into which insulation and breathable roof membranes were then fitted.
