Castle Hill School / William Saunders

A standalone eco-building designed to extend an SEN school’s innovative and spatially interactive teaching approach.

Castle Hill School in Huddersfield is an SEN School for ages 3-19, supporting and educating children with complex special needs.

Conceived by William Saunders as “a symbol of sustainability and innovation in physical form”, the single-story, curved wall building will be a work-based learning site focused on sustainable living and the value of recycling.

The project is our first PassiveHaus building in an educational setting, and our first use of faceted curve wall cassettes. Installation, from soleplate to protective membranes, required no heavy machinery and took just under 2 weeks.
